cinnamon
Cinnamomum verum
Cinnamon, a sweet, spicy herb, has been used in many cultures for thousands of years.
Uses of cinnamon in herbal medicine
May be used in foods to significantly reduce blood sugar levels, reduce triglyceride, LDL cholesterol, and total cholesterol levels (helpful for those with type 2 diabetes), relieve congestion, constrict and tone skin and connective tissue, facilitate digestive function, alleviate pain and stiffness in muscles and joints, alleviate menstrual symptoms, and prevent urinary tract infections, tooth decay and gum disease. Contains anti-inflammatory compounds that may help to relieve arthritis, blood-thinning compounds proven to stimulate circulation, and an anti-microbial agent that can kill E. coli and other bacteria.
May be used in a tincture or infusion topically for skin irritations.
Uses of cinnamon in aromatherapy
May be used to heighten focus, arouse sensuality, stimulate blood circulation, sharpen memory, alleviate fatigue, and bring comfort and a sense of well being to body and spirit.
